Tips For Keeping The Stairs Baby Proof

Tips For Keeping The Stairs Baby Proof
While no parent would argue that keeping your baby/toddler safe is priority number one, the fact is that more children are hurt in falls than in any other injuries. Many times, parents don’t fully realize how it may have been prevented by just making sure their home is safe.
Making sure your home stairs are "baby proof" is not difficult in the least. With only a few items and some time, you can rest assured that your stairs will be safe.
1. Have a baby gate for stairs. This is the single biggest tip to follow. It is so easy for a child to fall down the stairs. Always install a permanent hardware mounted baby gate. Pressure gates are not for stairs though. A tall baby gate is helpful for stairs as well.
2. Keep your stairway clean. I’ll be the first one to tell you that it is so easy to set things on the stairs and leave them there. But it is also easy to have an accident while carrying your baby down the steps when you don’t see the things there.
3. Put up another baby gate at the bottom of the stairs to prevent them from going up the steps. Baby can easily fall back down.
4. Be sure to always keep your baby gate closed. Double check that the gate is closed and keep an eye out on your baby as well.
5. Avoid the baby walkers upstairs. Baby walkers are great, but not around stairways. Accidents constantly happen when babies get too near the steps and tumble over. It’s easy for us parents to feel secure when our baby is in a walker, but be sure they are in it downstairs.
